Blake Lively

I saw these pictures of Blake Lively at the Savages movie premier and I thought she looked really good. I am not usually impressed with modern actresses, but I really liked her Old Hollywood look:

I think the dress is really pretty and looks really flattering on her. She's a gorgeous girl as is but I like this look on her. I also really like the way they did her hair.

I think her makeup looks better from a distance though. It ages her a bit. I also wish they would've filled in her brows differently. I think a Lauren Bacall arched brow would have completed this look. All in all though, she looked really good. Also, I would kill for this dress!!!

A Vintage Dilemma

Last weekend I was presented with a rather weird vintage dilemma. Though I am slightly (horribly) embarrassed by it I thought I would share it here with my readers and ask: what would you do if this happened to you???

On saturday Fernando and I were at the Queen Mary. Our friends Emily and Jesse had gotten married and we were waiting for the reception to begin (blog post to follow). We had toured the ship and taken pictures and were waiting in the lobby. I decided to go by the ladies room. I went into the stall and attempted to hang my purse on the hook attached to the door. I say 'attempted' because I did not succeed. My purse popped open, spilling almost all of its contents onto the bathroom floor. I say 'almost' because one item in particular, my vintage Stratton powder compact, landed somewhere other than the floor. Somewhere awful.

Can you guess where it landed, dear readers???

Its haunted because the Queen Mary is haunted.

Yup. You are correct. My vintage compact landed at the bottom of a public restroom toilet. It even opened on impact, leaving my pretty MAC sponge floating sadly on the surface of the gross water. I cursed loudly, probably scaring the other ladies in the restroom.

I leaned over the comode in a state of shock as a thin layer of powder coated the porcelein bowl. I had just refilled it the night before. Horror is not the right word to describe how I felt.

I debated over what I should do. It seemed to me that I had two, very clear options:

#1-Leave my trusted compact at the bottom of that toilet for some housekeeper to find and uncerimoniously throw in the trash. Talk about being buried at sea!

#2-Fish it out.

I really did not want to leave it there. I've had this compact for about 10 years and I use it everyday. It is not the prettiest compact I own but it certainly is the most convenient. Its nice and light and fits modern sponges. It also doesn't leak like some of my other ones do. Also, I am always sad when I manage to destroy a vintage item that has survived 60+ years. I feel like I have killed an endangered species or something.

So I figured that the only thing for me to do was to fish it out.

I surveyed the situation. My compact was laying at the very bottom of the bowl, completely submerged in water. I was in a public restroom with no tools or anything to get it out. I also didn't want to ask for help because it was too embarrassing. The only thing I reasoned I could do was to stick my hand in that nasty, germ filled water and pull out my now forever tainted compact.

So that is what I did. I was positively grossed out by it but I did in fact stick my hand into a public restroom toilet bowl to fish out a vintage compact. I did, however, and for all that it is worth, leave the sponge. I washed my compact in the sink with soap, making sure to remove all the powder residue. I scrubbed my hands raw with hot water and lots of that foam soap stuff and shuffled out to the lobby. When I told my OCD/germ freak of a boyfriend what I had done he looked at me like I had literally bathed in toilet water. He asked if the car keys had fallen on the bathroom floor. Yes they did. Did I wash them? Yes I had. Ok, but we're cleaning them with the Wet Wipes we have in the car. Ok.

So even though I managed to save my compact I will never look at it the same way again. Its kind of like when your boyfriend cheats on you. You can forgive, but you will never forget. It is completely soiled in every sense of the word.

So again I ask you, readers, what would you do if this happened to you? Or, has something like this happened to any of you and what did you do about it? On the one hand I am happy to have saved a vintage compact, but on the other I will never use it again so it might as well be dead and gone. So even though it was disgusting, did I do the right thing????

Temperamental Broad's Facebook Page

I decided to go ahead and make a Facebook page for my blog. I guess technically it is a "fan page" but I don't like that term so we shall just use the term "Fabulous Followers Page". I would appreciate it so much if you would head on over and "Like" it for me.

Thank you in advance!!!

A Big Old Pile o' Scarves

The last thing I need is a bunch of vintage scarves. I have a drawer in my vanity literally stuffed to the brim with them. That being said, I was on the hunt for a green scarf (which, surprisingly, I did not already own) when I found two lots of really pretty vintage scarves for sale on Ebay. Now I really only needed the one lot with the green scarves in it, but I couldn't resist bidding on both lots. They were from the same seller and she said she'd combine shipping so...why not???

I got the box in today and I am quite pleased with them. There are some really pretty ones and they are all vintage. Most are silk but a few are cotton.

29 new scarves.

These are the green ones that started this whole thing!

I think this one is my favorite. I love the vibrant colors.

This is the signed "Vera" scarf. It has sequins on it.

All in all I now have 29 new scarves that I will need to find storage for. I know for a fact they will not fit in my vanity!!

Recent Purchases

And by "recent" I mean "everything I have bought over the last couple of months". I have started a new job recently and am trying to save money for a car, so I am trying really hard to not buy anything. This is really hard though as shopping is one of my favorite activities. I haven't spent a ton of money over the past couple months, but I did manage to pick up a few things.

This is a mineral powder from Physicians Formula. Its like a bronze shimmer powder. It is my first Physicians Formula product and so far I really like it. It gives me a healthy glow.

I needed a few things from Sephora and I have been saving my VIB points and was about 25 away from 500. When you reach 500 you get a deluxe sample set for free. The one they had in stores sucked so I ordered it online instead. I had to spend $50 to get free shipping but I got a bunch of other free goodies too!

Too Faced Amazing Face Foundation Powder.
This is my favorite face powder. It leaves my skin looking flawless!

First Aid Beauty Shave Cream
I LOVE this shaving cream! I have dry skin and get bad razor burn. When I use this it leaves my skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

Tarte Serum Sample Set
I bought this to reach $50. I always like trying new primers so figured why not.

Benefit mini Dandelion blush and lip gloss.
Dandelion is one of my favorite Benefit products so of course I wanted to try the new gloss. And a mini blush too?? For free??? Hell yes!

This was my free gift for reaching 500 VIB points. Its a Korres skincare set. I'll try and remember to review later.

I also bought a bunch of stuff at Bath and Body Works semi annual sale. I got 5 lotions and 2 hand soaps for $25. I always stock up during their sales!

Next are some clothes I got. I got the first two in LA after Dollies wedding.

60s Lanz sundress
I don't buy many 60s items, but I thought this was cute and it fit me perfectly. It has little apples all over it :-)

I like the open back.

White sailor shorts.
These are from the 70s I think, but they look right out of the 40s. I am now on the hunt for a black pair of sailor shorts.

This last item I found at a thrift store near my new job. It was shoved in a rack of clothes and I spotted it as I was leaving.

Black gauzy peasant blouse.
Its not vintage at all but it looks it. It has a great cut and is a great material. I love it!

I really wanted a black one and now I do :-)

Trashy Dreams

I am currently attempting to put all of my funds aside for a car. But if I wasn't I would totally splurge on one of these beauties from Trashy Diva! I have coveted their clothes for ages and have yet to buy anything. Life always seems to get in the way of my shopping habit...

Vintage For Sale

Hey guys! I went through my closet and decided it was time to sell a few things. These are things that just don't fit anymore, or just aren't really my style. I'm small and petite and things need to really fit right in order for me to look my best. That being said, I decided to post them here on my blog in case any of my readers are interested in them.

There will be a few more posts coming up with things I am selling. I can't fit them all in one post. If you are interested in any of them leave a comment and it will be first come first serve. Please include your email adress in the comment. Shipping is not included in the price and payment will be excepted through Paypal. All measurements are taken laying flat, then doubled. If you have any questions please comment, or email me at

Thanks for looking!!

I love this dress but it just doesn't fit anymore. Its black and white gingham with red scalloped sleeve detail.

The belt is attached. Zipper up the back. Its in perfect condition.

Mexican tourist jacket. Its cream wool with all that killer embroidery! It could use a cleaning and on the left sleeve the dye from the yarn has bled slightly. No holes though. Price reflects issues.
Shoulder to shoulder-15
Sleeve length-22.5

Picture of where the dye bled.

Great design!

This is another dress that I wish fit. Its a green, black and white abstract print cotton day dress. I love the big buttons. There is some slight fading on the bust. Probably from the sun. Its not that noticeable though because of the print.

A picture of the fading.

There is also a small tear in the back of the skirt. It would be an easy mend.

1940s R&K Originals rayon dress. Its navy with yellow and white flowers, ruched sleeves and printed collar. There are a couple little holes in the dress. Nothing major. Side zipper.

The big collar.

Ruched sleeve detail.

1930s peach chiffon blouse. This blouse is gorgeous and in perfect condition! Theres a loose bow on the bust, ruched sleeves, and buttons up the back. Its stunning!! It is meant to fit a bit loose, and I have seen pictures of blouses like this worn with a belt.
Shoulder to shoulder-16

A couple loose threads on the hem, but no stains, rips or holes. Its perfect!

Ruched sleeves.

It buttons up the back with two snaps on the neck.

It reminds me of this crocheted number.

Talbots green wool 40s style a-line skirt. Its just too big in the waist for me.
Waist-13.5 laying flat.

Alright guys. I wasn't sure I wanted to sell these but the truth is they just don't fit me. They are true Art Deco beauties from the 20s or 30s. Velvet interior and beaded exterior. They are in near perfect condition! No missing beads, no tears, and the sole is still good. They are very wearable and will be great for an Art Deco loving gal.
Insole-9.25/Probably a size 6.5.
I will take offers on these, as I really don't know what they are worth. I have never seen anything like them before and I want them to go to a good home. So if you are interested, make an offer!!
