Temperamental Broad's Guide to Viva Las Vegas-Repro

If you are planning to go to Viva this year I'm sure you have heard on numerous occasions 'don't wear repro!' The reason for this bold statement is that if you decide to wear your new Stop Staring dress on saturday night, chances are that someone else will be wearing the same dress. But I don't agree with this statement 100%. There are some great repro companies out there that make things that really do look vintage and aren't as common as Stop Staring. Chances are that no one will even know that you are wearing repro. Whirling Turban makes dresses that are almost as collectible as the real thing!

Here are just a few repro items that I think are amazing and would be happy to add to my wardrobe.

  1. oooh I love that wing top that is fabulous!

I agree on certain repro too, I also think it's how you wear it. Some people make repro look vintage if it's good repro!

And yes I did see your post on Miss L Fire shoes, in fact they saw it too and loved the post!

  2. That wing top is hella cute! I love the Whirling Turban dresses! I want ALL of them! I have been dropping hints to the man since my b-day is two weeks away! I so want the green and black hibiscus dress in the sarong style!

I think there are some nice, repro brands out there! I prefer the smaller companies instead of Stop Staring. You know when you see Kim Kardashian and lame a$$ Paris Hilton wearing their dresses, it is not good! lol!

  3. Oh I love the Miss Hussy tap shorts and top! I also cannot say enough kind and wonderful things about the ladies at Whirling Turban and Miss Kim at Nudeedudee, they both go the extra mile to ensure you getting the most fabulous fitting items possible!

  4. I only own one repro dress that is by Stop Staring.
However i bought it in this little small rockabilly shop where i used to live, and so far i have not seen one other girl wear it. Hmm would i wear it viva? probably not. Because like you said id be super embarrassed if some other girl had it. Ive actually searched for it on their website and everything and it seems to be discontinued. So that gives me a little comfort haha.

  5. Yay! For featuring Miss Hussy. Hayley is in my circle of friends and she is sooooooooooo gorgeous! And talented! Her clothes are reasonably priced and ultra cute. She is having a stall this weekend at Kustom Kulture (in Adelaide, South Australia)...oh and I have one of those wing tops and they look amazing on!

  6. I've read on other blogs that wearing repro to Viva is not a good idea, and to be perfectly honest, that just sucks. I'm plus size...it is insanely difficult to find decently priced vintage in my size. I don't even bother with it anymore.
I just sew my own, but now I'll feel better about looking at these other repro companies when I do eventually get around to going to Viva one of these years.

  7. Amanda Awesome-I am a firm believer that you should wear what ever the hell you want to wear at Viva! Its not about following a dress code, its about making your own. All my Viva posts are written from my point of view but I try not to put restrictions on anyone or anything. Viva is about having fun, looking great, and letting loose. So if you want to do that in a Stop Staring dress, jeans and a t shirt, or vintage Lurex, its up to the individual. My only rule is this:HAVE FUN!!

  8. Straigh Talking Mama-I love Miss L Fire!!! I would own them all if I could!

Tara-I think some of the Stop Staring stuff is cute but their prices scare me. That and the fact that its mainly stretchy, shiny material that they use and thats just not my thing. But I do appreciate what they do and for a lot of people its a really good option. I know that some people are just scared of vintage!

  9. Gloria Alex-I bought a few of their pieces about 10 years ago and it was awful! The quality was really bad so I wound up selling it all. I know since then they have gotten a lot better but it still scared me off of buying their stuff. I did recently buy a repro dress from My Baby Jo that I love and wear all the time. If its cute why not!!

Miss Molly Doll-One day I will own the wing top!! I promise!!

IliveinmyLab-I have a jumper from Nudeedudee and its wonderful! Funny fact: Kim is my boyfriends ex! I didnt know it at the time but I'd still go back to her. She was amazing to work with. I've just been too broke!!

  12. Three words: Freddie's of Pinewoods! OMG I think I would roll over and die if their repro jeans and overalls didn't exist. That is one area that I don't even bother to look for in vintage, as most vintage trousers I've tried on look godawful on me! LOL

  13. When I was bigger, I mostly wore Whirlingturban, but since I lost weight and can wear cute vintage, that is mostly what I wear now. A cute repro here or there I might buy, but most are not cut well for my figure. They are made for the modern, ungirdled figure and will be too big in the waist.

Sorry I've been away from blog land so long...see you next week! xxx
