A Proper Outfit Post

I finally remembered to take proper photos of  my outfit for last night. We didn't do anything crazy, just dinner. I had a lot of time on my hands yesterday so I played around with my hair. I managed to do the Grable do that I love so much. Its hard to accomplish because I still have bangs, but I got it!

Here's the back.

My bakelite for the evening. Most of these were Christmas gifts from Oscar.

I wore the My Baby Jo dress again.

Ta da!! A proper outfit post!!

  1. I love it! Your hair looks fabulous! I am currently trying to grow my middy layers out a bit. I think the shorter layers are too short and I would like to have more of a Bettie Page length/layering. Moreover, the shorter layers, especially by my ears, make reverse rolls a bit tricky. However, my longest length (by my neck) is getting long! I just need the shorter layers to catch up!

  2. My hair has grown out a bit from my last cut so I'm able to do more 40s styles again. I think I will continues to grow it out til Vegas. I really want my bangs to grow out so I can do faux bangs and stuff. Right now they are still too short. Even doing the Grable do was rather tricky. I wore this style again today (slept on it) and I got lots of compliments on it. I will have to do it more often!

  3. I am trying to grow my bangs out so that they touch the tops of my eyebrows. When my bangs are a bit longer, I can still do Bettie bangs and also iron them back. I have a tiny barrel curling iron that really helps when it comes to doing rolls and curled styles.

I want to do Viva this year and I have never been! Since I started blogging in May, I have met so many wonderful gals (like yourself) and I think Viva would be a fun way to meet other vintage folks and be part of the scene. DC is severely lacking in the vintage department! I feel like the only one! lol! I also love Vegas! I enjoy shopping, the food, and people watching. The last time I was in Vegas (March 2010), it was for business and I did not to get to do many fun things so maybe this year's Viva would be a good idea!

Btw, your bakelite is AWESOME!! The orange one is simply amazing!

  6. Betty-you should definitely go! The Orleans is sold out, but if you go on Zappos you may be able to find a room without the Viva discount. Its really not that much more expensive. They always save some for non Viva guests. I'll do some posts soon about Viva and I can promise if you go you will have a great time!

  7. Hep-Kitten, Andi, STM, VV-Thanks! This was always one of my favorite styles, but always hard to do because of my bangs. I've gotten a lot better at doing my hair on a consistent basis. Its a lot of work, but worth it IMO.

Betty & Dollie-I promise I will do my bakelite post soon! That big piece was a great find and is one of my new favorites.

  13. Can I make a request for your bakelite entry? I am looking on Ebay and see all different colors carvings etc etc with all different prices. Could you help a novice bakelite collector spot fakes and or less desirable bakelite? Thanks! I've been to Pasadena antique market looking for bakelite but they want $15 for a thin spacer. Just wondering how they price these things. Thanks!

  14. Brook- I was actually just thinking about doing a post about fake bakelite. I've been seeing a lot of it lately. I'll try and do a more thourough one about the real stuff too. How to test it and how much it costs. Thanks for the request and the nice comments!
