October Spookfest

You may notice that I have a new Halloween themed banner and layout. I love Halloween and all things spooky!!! I have a big interest in ghosts and hauntings and strange things so I've decided that I'm going to share some of them with you guys this month. There will be some ghosts stories and photos, Vampires and witches, Horror Movies, weird Colorado History, and whatever else strikes my fancy. I will of course keep up with all my vintage and outfit posts as well. I hope that you guys enjoy this and feel free to post any cool stories that you may have as well.

First, I thought I'd share a couple pictures of my most recent Halloween costumes.

This was a couple years ago at the Devotchka/Yard Dogs Road Show concert. I was a Go Go Spacegirl and Emma was a fairy.

A closeup of my costume.

Last year Oscar was the Devil and I was a wind up doll. I didnt get a picture of it but I made a winder that I wore on my back. I really liked this costume!

Some close up shots. I wore teal eyeshadow on my eyes. It was fun!!

This year I was thinking about being Miss Argentina from Beetljuice.

How cool is she??? The sad thing is that I don't really know that I will even dress up this year because Oscar is working on that saturday. I may just carve pumpkins and watch horror movies. I never get trick or treaters, which is sad.  We shall see though!

So what about you guys? I wanna see some of your past costumes. What are your plans for this Halloween? Will you be dressing up or handing out candy?? Do you carve pumpkins too?? Tell me all about it!!

30s Hair

I am sick of my hair. I feel it is too long and I've become really lazy with it because it is just too much work. I really want something a bit more simple. Something I can set and style fairly easily. Plus, with winter coming up I want to be able to wear more hats.

Right now I am leaning towards a 30s cut. Maybe something like this:

Or this:

I just want something shorter, lighter, and easier. But I need help from you guys! I know nothing about 30s styles. Does anyone have any ideas of what to tell my stylist? Any good links of cuts and styles that you know of? I haven't had short hair in years and I'm a little nervous about it, but if I can get a cute style going I think I'll be ok. So ANY advice from you ladies would be super helpful!!

Outfits and Stuff

Here are my outfits from the weekend and a couple things I bought.

This is what I wore to Bastiens.
Vintage Hawaiian dress-Flea Market in San Francisco.
Miss L Fire-Lolas
Cardigan-Charlotte Russe

On saturday we went antiquing, but somehow managed not to buy anything!

Blue blouse-thrifted
Vintage skirt-Buffalo Exchange
Sandals-thrifted
This is a new outfit for me and I really liked it!

Heres just a silly picture at lunch. We went to US Thai which is my absolute fave!!

On sunday we went to a flea market. I didn't take a picture of my outfit but here is what I bought.

Black velvet wedges with a cute little bow on the toe for only $7. They aren't vintage though. Originally from Target, but they were brand new.

And heres my latest Ebay purchase.

The description was a little weird. They called it everything under the sun so I have no idea what I'm getting. But for only $11 I don't really care. Its carved and a nice color and thats all I really want!

Oscars Birthday

This past weekend was spent celebrating Oscars birthday. It was a pretty chill weekend. No crazy parties or anything. Saturday, which was his actual birthday, we just had Thai food and watched a movie. It was a nice relaxing time.

Friday I gave Oscar his gifts which I can finally share with you guys. Here he is opening it.

I just had to get him the elephant gift bag! Everyone at work thought I was going to a baby shower!

His gift. A deadstock Trav-L-Bar complete with original key.

Its probably from the early 60s. He really loved it! I got this for him to put in his Cadillac so he can make cocktails and stuff at car shows. He has vintage folding table and chairs, and the portable record player and now he has a bar. The only other things we need are a picnic set and table cloth and we'll be all set!

His other gift was this record, which is part of a series of 50s and 60s burlesque instrumentals. Its a really great compilation and one that I would recommend highly.

We went to dinner that night at Bastiens, our favorite steak house that opened in 1959. Its the first ever Googie style building to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places and its located about 10 blocks from where we live.

Its a no nonsense steak house that features a sunken bar, a sugar steak, and a bartender named Scott. If you are ever in Denver make sure to stop by!

Cocktails and polaroids.

Our favorite dessert is the Black Forest or Black Russian cake (I always mess up the name!) and the waitress brought it out to Oscar with candles.

Happy Birthday!!

Sunday was our usual BBQ and Mad Men.

I apologize for the sweats.
We made cajun pork tenderloin with a pineapple/mint salsa, asparagus, and potatoes au gratin. It was delicious!!!!

After Mad Men I gave Oscar his official birthday cake.

All in all it was a great weekend and I'm glad he had such a great birthday!

I Don't Know What to Title This Post so I Won't Title it Anything.

My apologies for the lack of posts. This week has suddenly passed me by! I dont have too much to blog about. I've been a bit lazy this week and have been sleeping in every morning. With the weather beginning to change my body reacts accordingly. I go into hibernation mode. I did manage to go dancing on tuesday, which was a fabulous time! I really need to go more often. This weekend is Oscars birthday and I would share with you what I got him but he reads my blog and I'd like to keep it a surprise! I think its pretty cool though. I will share with you the only purchases I have made recently though. I've been in a cosmetics mood lately and needed so replenish a few things, and buy some new things of course! I haven't gotten them yet so I can't review them though.

Too Faced Amazing Face Foundation Powder $32
This is a new product that I read about in a magazine. Its supposed to be comparable to Benefits Hello Flawless, which I really like but the colors don't match me well. This powder is supposed to have anti-aging skincare in the product and sun protection. It sounds great and I've been looking for a new powder so I figured I'd give it a try.

Sephora Smoothing Primer $15
This was one of the items I needed to replenish. I love this stuff and wish it came in a larger size. I notice when I use it that my makeup lasts all day and still looks smooth and fresh. Plus this stuff feels like silk!

Rosebud Perfume Co Lip Balm Trio $16
I can't live without my Rosebud Salve and was dangerously low, so I decided to try this trio which includes Strawberry and Mint. I should be set for at least 6 months now.

Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder and travel Kabuki brush.  Retails at $59 but I got them both for $30.
I tested this out on my hand and really liked it so I hope I like it as much on my face. I'm stocked on powder now (I still have an Origins Silk Screen unopened in my vanity) but I will need to go to MAC soon and get a few things. Once I try these items I will review them for you. For now I am going to try and get caught up on all the blogs I follow!!

Everyday Mundane Items Always Look Better in Pink Glitter Containers

One thing I love about past era's is that they made cute containers to hold everything. I have a slight obsession with storage items and I always prefer that they look cute and girly. So when I saw this I just had to have it:

Yes, it is a Curler Hamper. It may be just a plastic container to put your curlers in but I'll be damned if it isnt cute!! The funny, or ironic, thing is that just last night I was thinking that I really needed a new container to put my curlers in. The Bath and Body Works bag I have been using until now just isnt cutting it anymore. Plus, I am still working on my pink and black bathroom redo so this will fit in just fine!

Upcoming Shows

There are some great shows coming up here in Denver and none of them are Rockabilly! The horror, I know, but I will have my temporary fill of it when I'm in LA. I am not a big 'show' person. I am really short and can never see the band, unless I stand in front but then I get run into and shoved around. Plus, I hate pot and I swear there are stoners at every concert I go to! So, I only try to go to shows when I really love the band. These three bands are definately ones that I love and I have been looking forward to them for a while now.

I love me some soul and Sharon Jones does it right! I need to find someone to go with me though as Oscar has to work. I have never seen her live but I hear she's amazing and I really don't want to miss her!

These guys are more of an experience than a show. They are like a circus sideshow, featuring hobos, belly dancers, sword swallowers, burlesque dancers, and everything else you can think of. They are also a band who's music is really cool! I saw them on Halloween a few years back and was blown away! I can not wait to see them again!!

October 25-Interpol

Oh how I love Interpol. There is just something about their music that calms me. I saw them the last time they were here and they are amazing live. They are definitely different than what you'd expect me to listen to (Oscar hates them!) but I listen to lots of different music and this band takes me back to my early 20s when I was slightly goth. Plus, they are just a damn good band.

Carnage on Larimer

On saturday I went to the Carnage on Larimer car show for a bit. Here are a few pictures.

I brought Pachuca with me and she had a great time!

Pachuca with my friend Beth.

Oscar bought a portable record player at the Mod show and he finally got to use it. It actually works really well!!

Goodbye Chicken!!!

One of my best friends Cara moved to LA on sunday so most of this weekend was spent with her. I'm really sad she moved but I can totally understand why. Plus, I know I will still talk to her everyday and I will also get to see her in October when we go out there for the Rhythm Rocker weekend.

Friday we just went to a bar and hung out for a bit. Oscar brought his Polaroid and took a bunch of pictures of Cara with all her friends. The flash was blinding but at least she will have some great pictures for her fridge.

Cara!!

I don't know what I'm doing with my hand.

On saturday we all went to Lakeside for Cocktails and Coasters. It was a lot of fun but I got a bit sick on the hammerhead ride. I did finally get to ride in the first car on the Cyclone roller coaster though. It was awesome!!!

Waiting in line for the Cyclone. I love how this photo looks!

Cakes was my ride buddy :-)

Dougie doing what he does best.

Wild Chicken-munk ride. Bye beeyotch, I'll miss you!!!!

The Rhythm Rocker

For the past two years I have gone to the US Rave in October. If you don't know, it was sort of a mini Viva, even taking place at the same hotel. It was a lot smaller than Viva, really only bringing out the die hard rockabilly fans. No car show, no fashion show, no pool party. Just bands and dancing. The first year was a blast!!!!!

Communal bottle of champagne. I don't remember specific details about this night but I do know that I laughed A LOT. And tackled at least 2 people that I know of for sure.

The second Rave wasnt nearly as much fun, mostly because I was really sick the whole time. I had this horrible cough that prevented me from dancing at all, and I just felt awful the entire time.

Notice that I am drinking water. Thats a sure sign that I was sick! When I look at the pictures from the event I just think I look bloated and kinda pasty. But it makes sense because I felt like death the whole time!

Anyways, the Rave is not happening this year. It just didnt get the attendance that they hoped. But Oscar and I do not want to wait until April when Viva rolls back around. We had talked about going to an event overseas but money is preventing that. So we have decided to head to California for the Rhythm Rocker.

Its taking place October 15-17 in Long Beach at a hotel and the lineup looks pretty good. I'm mostly looking forward to the Cleftones, Rambling James and the Billyboppers and the Sun Records tribute. And of course the DJ's (I'm mostly excited for DJ Okie Oran!!). Theres a pool party on saturday, which will give me an excuse to wear one of my new bathing suits, and a car show.

I'm really excited for this because I am in desperate need of a vacation! Plus, I miss LA and we will be staying with our friend Bridget, who I adore. And it will be a good chance to wear all my great dresses and shorts before I have to put them away for the winter.

Now I have to start planning my wardrobe!!!!

Wannabe Domestic Diva

My long weekend was spent cleaning and cooking mostly. I am not a fancy cook or anything but I can make anything from a recipe. And the stuff that was handed down to me from my mom and grandma don't require measurments or timers. I just know when they are right. On sunday I made enchilada casserole, which was a staple of my childhood. My family is from the south (West Virginia) but my mom moved to New Mexico when she was a teenager. This allowed an odd mixing of southern and New Mexican foods. New Mexican food is very different than Mexican food and I am always trying to mix it in to Oscars diet. He was a bit wary of the idea of an enchilada casserole, but once he tried it he was hooked! Good thing because we have tons of leftovers!

Since I was in a domestic mood I also made a cake. I am not a very skilled baker so most of my cakes come from a box. I fancied it up with strawberries though to give it that home made touch!

A Bad Day=Bad For My Wallet But Good For My Closet

I had a bad day at work on wednesday. Really bad. So to make it all better I bought a few things. I don't drink my sorrows away, I shop them away.

From Forever 21:

Red and white polka dot blouse $19.80. I'm wearing this today tucked into a high waist skirt.

Knitted sweater $24.80. Theres a little zipper at the neck and in person it looks really vintage.

From Etsy:
Gingham day dress $35.00 I bought this from Decodoll on Etsy the second she posted it! I think it will be good in the fall layered with stockings and a sweater.

From Ross:
Leopard jacket $20. I'm pretty sure I needed this. Everyone says 'don't you already own something just like that?' No. But now I do. This isn't the exact one I bought, but its pretty darned close. The lining on mine is red.

See? I feel all better now!!
